Wind Triangle Calculator

Solve the wind triangle: enter true airspeed, desired true course and the wind to get the heading to fly and your ground speed.

Formula

WCA = asin( (wind speed ÷ TAS) × sin(wind direction − course) ). Ground speed = TAS × cos(WCA) − wind speed × cos(wind direction − course). Heading = course + WCA. Convert to magnetic by applying variation.

FAQ

What is the wind correction angle?

It is the angle you steer into the wind so the aircraft tracks the desired course over the ground. Positive means correct to the right.
